Vækstpercentiler forklaret
Hvad percentilen ved din babys undersøgelse egentlig betyder, hvorfor tendensen betyder mere end tallet, og hvornår en ændring er værd at spørge til.
What does it mean if my baby is in the 25th percentile?
It means 25 out of 100 babies of the same age and sex weigh less, and 75 weigh more. It is not a grade. A baby who follows the same curve over time is usually growing well.
Why are my baby's weight and length percentiles different?
Each measurement is compared separately with babies of the same age and sex, so a baby can sit on different lines for weight and length and be growing well. Clinicians look at whether each line stays roughly steady over time.
How often should I weigh my baby?
After the first weeks, the NHS suggests no more than once a month up to 6 months, every 2 months from 6 to 12 months, and every 3 months after 1 year. More frequent weighing mostly shows normal day-to-day noise.
When is a change in percentile worth asking about?
The NHS notes that measurements may move up or down by one centile line, while crossing two lines is less common. Mention it at the next weigh-in, or sooner if feeding has changed or your baby seems unwell.
