When do babies start teething?

Most babies start teething at around 6 months, but the NHS notes that some start before 4 months and some after 12 months. The AAP says first teeth typically appear between 6 and 10 months.

Does teething cause a fever?

Not a true fever. The NHS says teething can cause a slightly raised temperature below 38C, and the AAP says research shows teething does not cause a true fever. A temperature of 38C (100.4F) or higher means something else is going on, so treat it as a fever and get advice as needed.

What order do baby teeth come in?

Usually the bottom front teeth (lower central incisors) come first, followed by the top front teeth, then the lateral incisors, first molars, canines and finally second molars. Most children have all 20 baby teeth by about 2 to 3 years.

Can I give my baby painkillers for teething?

Ask your doctor, health visitor or pharmacist first and always follow the dosing on the pack. Minimum ages differ: the NHS says paracetamol from 2 months and ibuprofen from 3 months, while the AAP advises against ibuprofen under 6 months unless a doctor recommends it.
