Klustermatning förklarad: därför vill bebisar äta så ofta
Timmar av matningar i rad på kvällen kan skrämma första gången. Här är vad klustermatning är, varför det händer, hur vi klarade det och när du ska be om hjälp.
What is cluster feeding?
When a baby wants to feed much more often than usual, sometimes almost constantly, for a stretch of time. The NHS says it usually happens in the first 3 to 4 months and is very normal.
How long does cluster feeding last?
During a growth spurt, the NHS says babies may cluster feed for a few days, and things settle once supply catches up with demand.
Can bottle-fed babies cluster feed?
Yes. The NHS says formula-fed babies can cluster feed too, but it is important not to overfeed, so watch for signs your baby needs a break, like turning away or pushing the bottle away.
When should I worry about cluster feeding?
If feeding is painful, wet nappies drop, your baby is not interested in feeding, or weight gain is a concern. A temperature of 38°C or higher under 3 months needs urgent advice (NHS).
