Hvad er et udviklingsspring? Babyens springuger forklaret

Hvor idéen om springuger kommer fra, en oversigt over udviklingsspring uge for uge, hvordan et spring ser ud i virkeligheden, og hvorfor et spring aldrig må bortforklare sygdom.

How do I know if my baby is in a leap?

Look for a shift across several areas at once: clinginess, short naps, distracted or constant feeding and more crying, often followed by a new skill a few days later.

When do developmental leaps happen?

The leap calendar most parents use puts them at around 5, 8, 12, 19, 26, 37, 46, 55, 64 and 75 weeks, counted from the due date rather than the birth date. Every baby is different, so treat the weeks as a guide.

Is a developmental leap the same as a growth spurt?

Not quite. A growth spurt is mostly about hunger, and a leap is mostly about fussiness and clinginess. They can overlap.

Are developmental leaps scientifically proven?

The idea comes from research by Hetty van de Rijt and Frans Plooij on infant regression periods. Later studies found weaker, less consistent signals. It is a model some parents find useful, not a medical diagnosis, and babies do not follow a timetable.
