How many diapers do I need in the diaper bag?

Babies can use as many as 8 to 12 diapers a day (AAP), roughly one every 2–3 hours. For a short outing pack 2–3, for a half-day 4–5 and for a full day 6–8, and add more for a newborn or a baby with an upset tummy.

What should be in the quick-access kit?

Diapers, wipes, a portable changing mat, a diaper clutch or organizer, hand sanitizer and wet or disposable bags. On full-day trips, add a spare T-shirt for yourself.

Do I need bottles if I'm breastfeeding?

Only if you're pumping or supplementing. Otherwise skip the bottle gear and take a couple of burp cloths. The checklist hides bottles when you choose Breastfeeding without Plan to pump.

What changes for plane travel?

Keep boarding passes and IDs handy and everything you need for the journey in your carry-on. Formula, breast milk and baby food are allowed through security in the US (TSA) and UK (GOV.UK) in larger amounts than the usual liquid limit, but you'll need to present them for screening. Full-size creams may not fit carry-on-only rules, and the 'Carry-on only' switch adds the liquids rule to your list.

What seasonal items matter?

Winter: warm hat and thin layers. Summer: sun hat, light muslins and shade. For babies under 6 months, the NHS says keep them out of direct strong sunlight, but the AAP allows small amounts of sunscreen on areas like the face if shade isn't available. From 6 months, use a baby sunscreen on exposed skin.

Do I need a travel crib for a day out?

No. For day trips keep it light: carrier or wrap, diaper kit, feeding basics and a thin blanket. If your baby falls asleep in a car seat or stroller, the AAP advises moving them to a firm, flat surface when you can.
