11 Month Old Baby: First Steps, Words & Food
An 11 month old guide on first steps and words, getting ready for cow's milk and cups, sleep, and home safety. Educational, not medical advice.
How much should an 11 month old sleep?
The AAP recommends 12–16 hours in 24 hours, including naps, for babies 4–12 months. Some babies this age sleep most of it at night, while others still wake.
When do babies take their first steps?
Many babies take their first steps around their first birthday, and walking earlier or later is common, according to the AAP. The CDC lists walking while holding on to furniture among the skills most babies have by 1 year.
When can my baby have cow's milk?
Whole cow's milk can become a main drink from 12 months. Before then, it can be used in cooking or mixed into food. Talk with your provider first if your baby has a cow's milk allergy.
How do I move my baby from bottle to cup?
The AAP suggests offering a cup at meals and gradually dropping bottle feeds, starting with those at naps and bedtime, finishing sometime between 12 and 18 months. Extra cuddles, songs, or stories can take the bottle's place at bedtime.
Is my 11 month old talking yet?
Some babies have two or three words by their first birthday, while many still use babble with the tones of real speech, according to the AAP. If you have concerns about your baby's hearing or sounds, mention them to your provider.
What should I track at 11 months?
First words and steps, meals, milk feeds, and sleep through changes like dropping a bottle. Nurtura Daily keeps them together for the 1 year checkup.
