Corrected age calculator: preemie age from due date
Work out a premature baby's corrected age from the birth date and due date (or weeks at birth), and see which age is used for milestones and growth until two.
What is corrected age?
Corrected age (also called adjusted age) is your baby's age counted from their due date instead of their birth date. You work it out by taking the age from birth and subtracting how early your baby was born. A baby born 8 weeks early who is 5 months old has a corrected age of about 3 months.
How early does a baby need to be born for corrected age to apply?
Nurtura Daily corrects from 3 weeks (21 days) early, the line between a term and a preterm birth. The CDC's milestone checklists use the same threshold. Below that the difference is too small to change anything, so the age from birth is used.
Until what age do you use corrected age?
Usually until about age 2. In Nurtura Daily correction stops on the second birthday, as a clean step rather than a gradual fade, and the age from birth is used for everything after that. Your doctor may use it differently for some checks.
Which age does Nurtura Daily use for what?
With a due date set, growth percentiles and bands, milestones, developmental leaps, sleep regressions, growth spurts and the home screen's cards about them use corrected age. Birthdays, the week number, the age on the profile and header, widgets, the watch, notifications and predictions use the age from birth.
How do I set a due date in the app?
Open Settings, choose your child, tap Born early, then Due date, and pick the day your baby was due. Keep Measure from due date switched on. You can turn it off at any time and the date stays saved.
Does corrected age tell me when my baby will catch up?
No. Corrected age is a fairer way to read development and growth for a baby born early, but it doesn't predict when or whether a baby will catch up. Every baby's path is their own, and your baby's doctor or neonatal team can tell you what applies to them.
I only know how many weeks pregnant I was at the birth. Can I still use it?
Yes. Switch to Weeks at birth and enter the weeks and days, for example 32 weeks and 4 days. The calculator works out the due date as the birth date plus 40 weeks minus the weeks at birth, then uses that.
